Skelton FC went one over the eight in the quarter finals of The Ian’s Cars of Barlby Senior Challenge Trophy, writes Dave Bailey, with a 9-2 win over York Nomads, top scoring for Skelton was Ben Janes with four followed by double strikes from Chris Holmes, Josh Leening and a Neale Holmes effort, Nomads replying with a penalty from Paul Stimpson and a Chris Smith goal.
Severus breezed into the semi-finals after seeing off Hambleton 6-0 with single goals from Dean Walker, Mark Woodward, Pete Mullen, Darren Sellars and a Joe Deppa brace.
A twenty five yard volley from man of the match Dean Readman gave Derwent Utd a 1-0 half time lead in their tie against Hounds F.C who hit back with a second half goal to take the game into extra time where Derwent with strikes from Rob Baker and substitute Dave Bradshaw booked their semi-final place in a 3-1 victory.
Darren Brandon was Wanderers penalty shoot out hero in their tie against Copmanthorpe, normally a striker Brandon had to play in goal due to an injury to the Wanderers keeper with the game 0-0 after extra time he saved a penalty and scored the penalty that took Wanderers through 4-3.
In the Junior Challenge Acomb WMC upset the form book by beating high flying Station FC 6-1, first half strikes from Danny Gray and Anthony Evans gave Acomb a 2-0 lead at the break, the second period saw Acomb dominate the play as Gray completed his hat-trick and Neil Ducey netted to make it 5-0, Station pulled one back with a penalty from Steve Lyon before Matty Horner completed the scoring to make it 6-1 to the club men.
St Johns with four goals from James Sharp plus doubles strikes for Graham Bell, Michael Warnes, Scott McKenzie and a Joe Brown effort easily saw off the challenge of FC Barlby 11-1, Barlby replying with a goal from Lee Carter.
Bishopthorpe shrugged off their poor league form to take their place in the semi-final draw with a 3-1 at New Earswick, Bishopthorpe took an early lead through an Andy Manns strike but Earswick made it 1-1 just before the break with a goal from Aurellian Thieraud, the second period saw Bish up the pressure and they were rewarded when Manns hit his second goal and Ben Smith struck to seal a 3-1 win.
In Division One Enterprises 7-0 win over Cliffe eased their relegation fears whilst pushing their opponents closer to the trapdoor, on target for Enterprise were Andy Nicholson and Danny Penrose with hat-tricks and Andy Holt with a single strike.
Acomb Celtic missed out on the chance to close the gap at the top of Division Two after going down 3-2 at home to Marcia Grey, the visitors opened the scoring with a goal from Mike South, Celtic drew level when Sean Stockdale hit the target but Marcia went in at the break leading 3-1 after Andy Mason struck his first ever goal for Marcia and Roger Lorains curled a twenty five yard shot into the net, the second period saw Acomb putting the Marcia defence under pressure and they made it 3-2 when Joe Woof struck but Marcia held out to take the points.
Promotion dark horses Albion Vaults who have games in hand on the teams above them saw off Cue-Ball 4-2 who had Tom Wheatland and Andy Thompson on target.
Wiggington Grasshoppers move off the bottom of the table after beating Acorn 4-1, Hoppers leading 2-1 at the break with a brace from Ben Coates wrapped up the points with second half goals from Steve Jarvis and Neil Walker, Acorns goal coming from Dave White.
In Division Three bottom of the table Acomb Athletic posted their first win of the season after goals from Ash North, Danny White, Arron North, Adam Craven and Glyyn Ellwood saw them beat leaders Hambleton Lions 5-3, Lions replying with two goals from Stuart Pea and a Paul Humprey strike.
In Division Four North Leeman United’s 7-1 win at Cue-Ball Reserves sees them close the gap on leaders Acomb WMC to six points with two games in hand, United’s goals coming from Daniel Moore, Liam Stilgoe, Daniel Midgely plus Jamie Moore and Jamie Doors with a brace each, Craig Nichol replying for Cue-Ball.
Callum Longhorne struck a hat-trick adding to single goals from Paul West, Neil Gaines and Mark Pragnell as Forest FC got back to winning ways with a 6-1 victory over Linton on Ouse whose lone goal was scored by Ken McKenzie.
Raskelf staged a great second half come back after goals from Wayne Langan and Rich Parry plus two own goals saw visitors Dynamo Megahorse race into a 4-0 lead at the break, Andy Metcalf with two goals led the fight back for the Villagers who struck three more times through Tom Hilling, Dean Hagland and Josina Williams to win the game 5-4.
Selby RSSC with two goals from Matty Curotto went down 3-2 at home to Hemingbrough who had Michael Young, Jon Collard and Luke Zacharenko all hitting the target.
Division Four South leaders Dunnington FC who have yet to drop a point this season beat hosts Fox FC 6-3 with goals from Karl Hetherington, Dave Potter, Rob Hart and John Wormald with a hat-trick, Fox replying with a treble from Danen Shutt.
Huntsmen FC with three goals from Lee Ward adding to strikes from Jim Holroyd, Simon White and man of the match Gary Pearson beat Turf Tavern 6-1 who replied with a goal from Dominic Tomaino.
Acomb Albion beat LNER Builders 4-3, on target for Albion were Wayne Haigh, Marc Stockdale and Carl Harris with a brace, Builders replying with two goals from Tudor Carrington and a Shaun Whincup strike.
