The West of Scotland Youth Football League began life in 1965 when Ayr man, Bert McRoberts, who about that time, had been organising a local primary school team, was encouraged by a few others to establish a League for teams operating outwith the schools set up.
And so, through the efforts of Bert, the Ayr and District Under 14s League was born.
Over the years the League grew with demand and under the stewardship of its presidents Bert McRoberts, David Cochrane, Archie Thomson and Tom Young, it has grown to be the largest League in the area.
We now attract teams from the length and breadth of Ayrshire and into Dumfries and Galloway. Currently we have 70 teams playing Development Football and 100 teams playing eleven-a-side football. With approximately 2, 500 players registered to play in the West.
