I started coaching girls football in Newport in 2003 when my daughters were 7 and 5 along with a dozen other girls aged from 5-13. After about 18 months a girls team was formed at Eveswell United a Newport club renowned for it's coaching and passing football. At this point I worked with 2 other coaches to develop an U10 and an U8 team for the 2005-6 season.
Over the following 2 years several festivals and a small league were run by the Newport & District Junior League which we participated in as well as entering other tournaments. In 2008-9 we joined the Gwent County U14 League and merged with a senior club to become Villa Dino Christchurch Eveswell (what a mouthful !).
The following season 2009-10 we joined the South Wales Girls League which the girls really enjoyed despite being a big step up in standard. Towards the end of the season I became part of the Gwent Girls Football Development Forum to promote and develop girls football and the next season joined the SWGL as a Club Representative.
As well as continuing to manage the Girls Teams at Villa Dino Christchurch and assisting with coaching I completed my 'apprenticeship' on the SWGL Committee. This led to assisting with more of the IT administrative functions then taking over responsibiliity for the League Website and as Fixture Secretary through 2011-2. I really enjoy making a contribution to girls football in our region and appreciate the kind words from others involved in making our League successful.
