Home Ground: Al Ansar FC has been formed with young people from the areas of Small Heath, Alum Rock , Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath.

We are a new club and this is the 1st time we’ve entered into an 11-a-side football league. Although we have participated in local and national 5-a-side and 7-a-side football tournaments.

Drugs and crime have plagued our local area, Small Heath, for a number of years. A few years ago we decided to try and be more pro-active in trying to help rid the area of these problems or help reduce them in any which way we could.

We realised that sport would prove to be a good distraction for those embroiled in the drug and mob culture and then decided to form the 11-a-side football team and enter it into The Shapla League.

Our aim is to engage the local kids in this sporting activity, which we believe will help keep them off the streets and away from criminal activities, as well as, helping them acquire key behaviours from discipline to team working, consideration of others and hopefully get the college drop outs back to college and into University.

This project will help the local community. The aim of this community based project is to increase participation and promote a healthy & active lifestyle. We want to use football as a tool to increase education attainment, promote social inclusion and challenge social nuisance.

As a team mostly consisting of Muslims we also wear 3 quarter length shorts as opposed to the normal shorts as our religion states we must be covered from navel to knee. We hope to set an example and want other teams to follow suit.

We hope to help individuals get back into education, get them off the streets and into a weekly activity, discipline them and we want to give them responsibility in order for them, to then help others.

Al Ansar is always on the look out for new players and if you’re interested in playing or offering assistance in coaching please email Fayyaz Razzaq for further details or information.
