Live Active

Monday night saw the Live Active Futsal Team faced with their toughest match so far as they came up against Fair City Santos, the most successful club in the history of the Scottish Futsal League. Preparations were hampered by the withdrawal of Graeme Lackie who had been feeling sick all morning, had lower back pain and a craving for ice cream. I think he’s been spending too much time reading up on Parenthood!

As expected Fair City Santos started the match in the ascendancy but the disciplined Live Active defensive system soon frustrated their opponents. It was Live Active who took the lead, Matt Brand dispossessing a Santos defender to race clear and score against his old Club. The Live Active goal sparked a reaction from Santos who soon drew level but, to their credit, Live Active responded by racing to a 3 – 1 lead thanks to two well taken goals from ‘pivot’, Gavin McLeod. Live Active should have closed out the game but were unable to resist the temptation to press forward for more goals. The Live Active defence was left exposed to the counter attack and Santos profited by scoring two goals in quick succession from corner set ups. Live Active were up against it now and despite heroics in the Live Active goal from Grant Morrison, soon fell behind to a well taken goal by Mackain.

Live Active now found themselves 4 -3 down with only a few minutes left on the clock, they pressed forward looking for the equaliser only to find the Santos Keeper in outstanding form. But with only 30 seconds remaining, Gavin McLeod took advantage of panic in the Santos Defence to score from close range to complete his hat rick. A final score of 4 -4, a great result for the team - Well done lads.

There were a number of great performances – Gavin McLeod with his hat trick. Scott Graham marshalled the defence superbly. Will Young making his debut - the lad looked like he’d been playing for years! But the man of the match for 3 or 4 ‘worldy’ saves was Grant‘the cat’ Morrison.
