I was around at the formation of the league and remember being at those first meetings at Scotswood sports centre and recall thinking to myself ,at the time, that I was getting a little too long in the tooth to play, but was whole heartedly behind and with the vision that both Dave Wills and Steve Tansey for the league. So I felt my main contribution would in both financial and prayer support.
I have a very keen interest in most sports but mainly football, although over the years my main sport was road running, having completed several full marathons and many other club runs, including the majority of Great North Runs. Last year I thought would be my swansong, so I ran,or should I say hobbled along as Santa Claus, carrying a charity bucket, to raise funds for a childrens charity. Over the years I have raised around £10,000 or so for various charities, including during the 80's and 90's organising several Runs for Jesus, to raise church funs.
My wife,Ruth and I have been christians for over 40 years and attend Metro Church International at the Bethshan Centre, Newcastle. Next year will be our 40th wedding anniversary.Somehow she has put up with me and looked after my running kit for a long time.No she's not a football fan but humours me, most of the time.
