Melton Lions (aka Half Moon) went into the last day of the season level on points with Real Ale Madrid but had a far superior goal difference so knew a win would clinch the title. The Lions were up against the current champions Egerton Park whilst Real Ale were playing third place Hamilton United. Hamilton played a defensive game in the first half only to concede 3 goals by half time. A change of tactic gave them the advantage in the second half but Real Ale stuck to their game plan and ran out 3-1 winners which meant that only a win would do for The Lions. In the end Melton Lions won emphatically 7-0 with Jack Baker and Robbie Preira getting 2 goals each and Lee Mann, Will Steele and Danny Marshall making up the seven. They proved to be worthy champions for the first time in their long history. Next week they play Real Ale Madrid in the first round of the League Cup in a bid to make it a treble winning season. Two goals from Chris Pope with one each from Kyall Nugent, Jamie Ingham, Jordan Smith and Danny Seals gave Wrightys a 6-1 win over Gimbles. The much improved Hamilton Reserves leap frogged 2 places to finish 7th in the league with a 7-2 win over Cutting Room. Both Tim Hatherley and Darren Lightbrown got hat-tricks and a late goal from Dave Wills set up by the veteran Rob Merrel finished the scoring. Finally Wymondham managed their 4th win of the season by beating Kings Head in a very open match 6-5. Now its onto the League Cup with the first round next Sunday, the Quarter Finals on the following Sunday, the semi finals on the 29th and the Final on Friday 31st May.
