Headline: Rothwell Albion jump final hurdle and head for the finish line
Once again the weather and cup competitions played havoc with the Sunday Alliance fixtures with only a handful making it to the grass and mud!
With no Premiership fixtures it was first division leaders, Rothwell Albion’s time for centre stage as they hosted fellow promotion hopefuls Barnstead. Albion knew 3 points would see them promoted and be a huge step to them lifting the title. Both outfits have been free scoring but this was a very different affair with either team cancelling each other out for large periods of the match. It would have been a fairytale for someone to decide it by screaming one in the top corner but in the end it was a scrappy Edward Orton knee from a corner that sealed it for Albion. They’re now 8 points clear of FC Brick in second with 4 games to play.
Also in the first division, Elford shared the points with Northern Star in a game that could have gone either way. Elford took the lead through Brighton and Jay Gulzar only to be pegged back by a fantastic 18 yard dipper from Reece Sockett and a clinical Mick Thorne finish for Star. In the final league fixture of the day Bramley also shared the spoils with West Leeds in an uneventful 1 all draw.
In the league cup there was a fixture contested by two teams worthy of the final. It was New Unicorn who just saw off JB Celtic to progress with a 2-1 home victory. Craig Townsend and Nicky Charlton with the Unicorn goals.
