Headline: Ireland Wood make things interesting

In a reduced fixture list due to the weather, Ireland Wood who were third at the start of play hosted league leaders New Unicorn. It was the visitors who took the early advantage through Craig Townsend but Wood stood firm against the wind to hit back twice before the change, Andrew Webster and Carl Delaney with the goals. In the second it was Wood’s chance to use the conditions to their advantage and they did just that. Mark Potter netting directly from a corner and Daniel Hornegold sealing the points. Dean Wardell did hit a consolation for the visitors but it was too little too late.

The result saw Wood leapfrog JB Celtic into second four points behind Unicorn who remain top, but it also does Celtic and AFC Waggon a favour as their games in hand could prove vital come the end of the season.

At the other end of the Premiership, Hawksworth pulled away from the bottom with a terrific 5-2 victory over fellow strugglers Osmondthorpe. Jonny Miller started proceeding and Joe Spaven hit a wonder goal shortly after but it was Joshua Miller who took most credit hitting a hat trick.

Republica Inter were 4-nil up after 77 minutes before the referee called a halt due to the conditions. Ross Bibby had netted a hat trick before the decision which will stand as a result.

In the first division, leaders Rothwell Albion cruised past Tinshill in a 10-2 win. Daniel Walker the pick of the bunch picking up the match ball. There were also victories for Bramley and FC Brick by the same 4-nil margin over Northern Star and Temple respectively. Michael O’Hanlon and Aaron Storke with a brace apiece for Bramley. Shane Gaunt (3) and Lee Ranson for Brick.

The other high flyer in the division Barnstead made light work of West Leeds, Waqar Hussain netting four times in the 9-2 win.
