Headline: Andrews’ is Northern’s Star!!
This week in the Sunday Alliance saw all of the top teams avoid potential slip ups, the closest of which was Leeds Maccabi who only just lost out to first division high flyers, Barnstead. Shaidul Hussain with a brace for the victors, while the prolific Mark Korn was again on target for Maccabi.
Also in the first division, leaders Rothwell Albion again looked solid and certs for promotion with a 4-nil win over Elford. Andy Wathern and Danny Walker hitting a brace apiece. The ever improving Northern Star outclassed Tinshill with Jack Andrews impressing with 5 of 11 unanswered goals. Thorne (2), Sockett (2), Pollard and Ongeri with the other goals. In the final game, FC Brick hit West Leeds for 8 with Lee Ranson netting half.
In the Premiership, a second vs third encounter saw Ireland Wood share the points with JB Celtic and this allowed New Unicorn to extend their lead at the top with a 2-nil victory over Hawksworth. Dean Wardell & Shane Hanson on target for Unicorn.
The draw also allowed AFC Waggon to close the gap on the leaders as they saw off a defiant Osmondthorpe team. The vistors had the lion’s share of possession and chances but failed to hit home their advantage. They eventually broke through with Pete Beane, Andy Mullane, Steve Mates and a own goal. However, Rangers made it interesting with a couple of crackers from Azzan Sephula & Michael Hardisty.
Finally in the Premiership, Gate FC saw off Republica in a tight match up. Stephen Cooper hitting the all important brace in the 2-1 victory.
