| Inauguration | The inaugural meeting was held in the Marquis of Granby, in Bamford, in 1905, at the request of Mr W Royce of Castleton. The League flourished until the start of World War 2, providing football for the villagers and the construction workers from the Bole Hill, Derwent and Howden reservoirs. The League was reformed in after the second world war 1945 by Harry Schofield of Hathersage and Walter Green of Bamford. In 1953 there was a sharp decline in fortunes and only six teams entered the competition. This led to a rethink of boundaries by which the foundations of the present League was created. Interest increased and by 1972 the League boasted four divisions.
Unfortunately at the present day this has fallen to three divisions. Above all else the Hope Valley Amateur Football League has been noted for its high sportsmanship over the years, a tradition to be carried on into the future.
