The first winners of the Forres and Nairn Welfare League Shield were Castle Inn in 1999, the year the Forres and Nairn Welfare FA's joined together to form one single Welfare FA. They finished ahead of 12 other teams in the new League championship, with Stable Inn finishing second. In 2000 and the beginning of a new millenium, a new force in the district's Welfare football was to emerge. Village side Auldearn won the first of four titles in six seasons in 2000, with the previous year's winners unable to retain their crown. Auldearn couldn't achieve that either in 2001, as Red Lion won their first title under the new association, and their seventh league crown in total including their triumphs in the old Forres Summer League. Castle Inn again came so close, finishing behind Red Lion, and completed the unwanted hat-trick of finishing second three years in a row, with Auldearn reclaiming the title. The villagers then retained their title, pipping Dallas to the title before the Forres side reversed roles in 2004, winning their first and so far only title triumph in their history. Auldearn won the title for the fourth time in 2005 beating Red Lion to championship glory. Auldearn did not defend their title in the 2006 season as they opted to play in the Inverness Amateur Leagues. Winning the league for the first time in their history was the Abbey Inn, the first of two trophies they won that season. The winners in 2007 were former junior team RAF Kinloss, playing their first season at Welfare level in 24 years. It was a memorable one as they won the league on the last day with a 3-2 win in an outstanding game with Uncle Bobs, who were level on points until that game. The Abbey regained the league crown in 2008, then retained it under the Carisbrooke name in 2009, the first time the Brookie had won the crown. Another new name was etched onto the shield in 2010 as well, with the Carlton edging out RAF Kinloss on the final day of the season for the first league crown in their history. 2011 also seen first time winners, Jackos made Welfare League history by going through their entire league campaign without dropping even a point, winning all their games. The 2012 season was a lot closer, with four clubs in the race until the final two weeks of the season. In the end the Carlton emerged victorious to win their second league title in three years.
