Secretary’s Report 2011
The weather did its best to disrupt our programme this winter and led to an uncomfortable April for a lot of teams and I would like to thank each and every team for their effort in completing their matches. Each competition was very well contested in all the divisions and cup competitions. It was unfortunate that the Sports Council Cup fell victim to the weather but it was the lesser of all the evils we were faced with.
We returned to the Anchor Ground for our cup finals this season and it proved to be a resounding success and three good games. I would like to thank AFC Darwen for the very professional way they hosted each final.
We also had a new venue for the Presentation Evening. Blakeys Café Bar was holding its first Blackburn Comb event but I think we will be back again next year. I am sure all who attended the night enjoyed themselves thoroughly. My personal thanks for the receipt of the William Fox Memorial Trophy and for the League Special Award.
At this moment in time we have had several enquiries to join the league for next season, but only one definite application. I have not been informed of any resignations at this point so numbers for next season may be similar to this one. I must admit to some concern regarding the financial state of some teams. We are experiencing hard times as a nation and this will reflect on clubs finances and could pose us some problems.
My thanks must go once again to Referees Appointment Secretary, Mr David Otley, for the fantastic job he has done again in making sure every game played in this league had a referee. Lionel Cooke has also had a busy season and I thank him for his efforts on your behalf.
I would like thank all my table officers and the entire executive committee for their diligence and hard work.
Congratulations to all the trophy winners from this very successful season and good luck to everyone for the coming season.
